Caso, Valeria

Dr. Valeria Caso graduated from the University of Perugia School of medicine in Italy in 1994 and completed her specialisation in Neurology in 1999. In 2003, she earned her Ph.D from the University of Perugia with a final thesis entitled “Determinants of outcome in patients eligible for thrombolysis for ischemic Stroke.”
During her PhD study period she worked as a research fellow at the Department of Neurology in Heidelberg, Germany under the Prof Werner Hacke (2000) and the Department of Neurology, University of Zurich, Switzerland under Prof. Ralf Baumgartner (2003).
She has authored or co-authored more than 100 published papers and she has acted as a reviewer for peer reviewed journals including: JNNP, CVD, Stroke, and Lancet Neurology. Her scientific interests include: cervical artery dissection, atrial fibrillation and hemorrhagic transformation.
She is a member of the ESO Executive Committee, ESO guidelines committee and Italian Guidelines Committee (SPREAD).
Currently she is a stroke neurologist working at the Stroke Unit, at the Hospital S. Maria della Misericordia, Perugia, Italy.
She is married and has two sons. Her interests include classical music and theatre going. She is also fond of physical activities like cycling, swimming and skiing.
