TIA: Diagnosis and risk stratification approaches

TIA clinic versus TIA usual admission

Imaging in TIA and minor stroke: role of MRI, CTA & TCD

Over the past 10 years, multimodal brain MRI and to a lesser extent CT have become essential tools for the evaluation of TIA patients. In this presentation we will review how those multimodal imaging techniques may assist the clinician during the different steps of the management of patients referred for transient neurological symptoms of presumed ischemic mechanism:
1- Confirmation of the ischemic mechanism of transient focal neurological symptoms
2- Exclusion of non-ischemic mechanism
3- Detection of the underlying vascular mechanism that will allow the physician to tailor an optimal prevention strategy
4- Stratification of the risk of recurrent stroke.
